Health & Safety
The Road Safety Team consisting of Dave Washbourne and Nicola Barrowclough from BBUS and Steve Whetham and Ian Broomhead from MCM Insurance have been touring the country to promote road safety.
Road Safety Week a Winner
As part of Brakes' National Road Safety Week, Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions
hired a Mobile Exhibition Unit to visit employees at different depots and
sites each day to present a road safety awareness session.
Attendees were given a presentation and asked to watch a DVD,
produced by Brake - the road safety charity - called 'Too Busy to Kill'.
On completion of the session,
employees signed a 12 point pledge to drive safely and offered
suggestions on how to further improve road safety.
Everyone who attended
was handed a free gift bag with essential driving tools with key safety messages
and tyre depth gauges, ice scrapers and a copy of the newly revised Highway
Code.
The Mobile Unit toured the country, and in the North West region visited Penrith,
Worsley, Bamber Bridge, Whitebirk, Blackburn, Rugby, Redditch, Droitwich, Exewater, Greendale
and Roundswell. Some sessions attracted over 500 attendees - including clients, who were impressed
with the way in which road safety information was provided.
Brakes' main theme for Road Safety Week is Child Pedestrian and
Cyclist Safety, and already planned for 2008 are new ways of working with local schools, businesses
and stakeholders.
Walking Bus Project
A 'walking bus' project is just one way of introducing road safety to young
children. These children can only benefit from the importance of these skills
learnt early on.
By continuing to create new and innovative ideas for the future, BBUS hope to further reduce road traffic collisions and promote
safer driving to both its employees and the public.
A Road Safety team consisting of Dave Washbourne (Driver Trainer) and
Nicola Barrowclough (Project Assistant) from BBUS, and Steve Wetham and
Ian Broomhead from MCM Insurance toured the country to promote road safety.
The road safety sessions were welcomed by all, and there was fantastic feedback
and suggestions on how the company could help improve road safety and driver training.
